In 2012, during my undergraduate studies while taking a History of Graphic Design class, we were assigned to read the introduction pages of the book Orientalism by Edward Said. That marks the point of change in my perception of Middle Eastern representation in art and design.

As part of curiosity and fascination of the power of representation, and my search for answers about how we represent our cultures and what global values influence our own perception and representation, I created this series of staged photographs between the years 2012 and 2013, exploring and visually representing my understanding of Said's Orientalism concept.
